Flood Relief Operations in Assam

Heavy rains in the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have resulted in overflow of Brahmaputra River and its tributaries leading to floods in areas astride them. Army is assisting in Flood Relief Operations. Reacting swiftly, Army has deployed 122 Teams in flood affected areas for rescue and relief operations in following districts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh:

(a) Sonitpur, Assam.

(b) Kamrup, Assam.

(c) Barpeta, Assam.

(d) Tinsukia, Assam.

(e) Sibsagar, Assam.

(f) Jorhat, Assam.

(g) Dhemaji, Assam.

(h) Baksa, Assam.

(j) Nalbari, Assam.

(k) Darrang, Assam.

(l) Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh.

Details of equipment employed is as under:-

(a) BsAUT – 122.

(b) Out Board Motors (OBMs) – 122.

(c) Life Jackets – 540.

Assistance Rendered. The details of assistance rendered till date is as under:-

(a) Persons Rescued – Approximately 3500 persons.

(b) Medical Aid Provided – 132 Persons.

(c) Food Packets Distributed – 180.

(d) In addition, approximately 3000 kgs of rations provided by civil administration have been distributed by Army Task Forces in the isolated and inundated areas.

(e) Army helicopters are being employed for aerial reconnaissance of flood affected areas and distribution of food and rations.

The Army reconnaissance teams are continuing to identify all affected areas in conjunction with the civil administration, that are currently inundated with a view to provide immediate relief and succor to the marooned families. All necessary assistance requested by the civil administration is being made available.
