A tripartite meeting involving the representatives of the Government of Assam, and the ULFA was held on 29.06.2012 under the Chairmanship of Union Home Secretary (Sh. R.K.Singh) in New Delhi to discuss ULFA demands. The ULFA delegation was led by Shri Arabinda Rajkhowa (Chairman, ULFA).
ULFA representatives requested the Union Home Secretary to enhance relief and rescue operations for the people affected by the current flood in Assam. Union Home Secretary stated that he is constantly in touch with the State Government Officials including Chief Secretary of Assam, monitoring the relief and rescue operations. He mentioned that 16 NDRF Teams have already been put in place for relief operations. The Air Force is also assisting the State Government in rescue operations with Helicopters stationed in various points in Assam. He added that the situation in Assam is being reviewed by him regularly on hour to hour basis.
ULFA representatives requested that steps need to be taken by the State Government for effective functioning of Panchayati Raj system in the State, additional measures also need to be taken for effective guarding of Indo-Bangladesh Border to check illegal infiltration from across the border. In order to ensure speedier socio-economic and educational development, including road infrastructure, ULFA leaders requested that Government provide all possible support to the State Government.
