IAF Mountaineering Expedition to Virgin Peaks in Ladakh Region

A team of 15 highly motivated and experienced mountaineers led by Wing Commander Namit Rawat was flagged off on 20JUN12 by Air Officer – in – Charge Administration, Air Marshal JN Burma PVSM AVSM VSM at Air Headquarters in New Delhi.

This team would attempt to conquer the unexplored and unclimbed peaks in the Ladakh region which was recently declared open by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation. In keeping with the spirit of its motto “Touch the Sky with Glory”, the Indian Air Force is poised to hoist the IAF and National Flag on top of the unclimbed peaks in Ladakh region.

By hoisting the Indian Tricolor and IAF Flag on unclimbed peaks in Ladakh region, IAF is aiming to promote mountaineering amoung its personnel and motivate the youth of the country to join IAF. These unnamed and unclimbed peaks are situated in very inhospitable terrains of Ladakh region. After their successful summit, IAF shall propose naming these peaks as Nirmaljit Peak, Arjan Peak and Subroto Peak.
